SEO for Real Estate

In December 1993, Mosaic was released and the world began to learn about the World Wide Web.

By 1995, many companies had their own Web sites. A few were successful, most were not.

In 2003, Internet traffic grew much faster. Everyone had a Web site and many were quite popular. Did that translate into new business?

Turning Real Estate Leads Into Real Estate Clients

Now that agent Web sites were seeing increased traffic, the problem became converting leads into clients. The challenge remains today.

Enter, search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is more than merely search engine optimization, it's understanding how to make your online content attractive to both the search engines but also the real, live people that use them.

With the rise of social media, such as Facebook, LinkedIn and now Twitter, there are more ways to not only send messages about yourself and your services but also to interact with potential customers.

Hearing what others are saying about you and your real estate is just as important as it is to Fortune 500 companies.

SEO Best Practices for Real Estate

SEO builds upon business strategy. It doesn't replace it.

  1. Business Goals: Real estate agents may not know the best way to design a Web site but they do know what's best for their business. Identify achievable business goals, then see which can be influenced by the Internet. (Hint: It's usually most of them.)
  2. Internet Strategy: After identifying which customer group(s) you will target, formulate the best Internet strategy based on a cost/benefit matrix. The strongest SEO experts understand how the many facets of the Internet function, as well as, which lie just around the corner.
  3. Create Stellar Content: Research potential keyword phrases being used by targets. Strategize about which keyword phrases you can "win" in the search engine results. Then, create interesting and useful content. Integrate all platforms so that the content is positioned to promote stated company goals. Rinse, repeat.
  4. Attract Targets: Utilize social media best practices to attract people to content. (see next)

SEO and Social Media

If you thought the Web was fast-moving, the landscape of social media is the express lane. Organizations like Facebook have come out of nowhere to be one of the top 10 richest tech brands in the world. Simply by building an engaging Web site.

Twitter, now the bullet train on this information superhighway has taken the world by storm. The service grew by 300,000 users a day back in 2010.

... Twitter was up and functioning for 3 years, 2 months and 1 day before it notched its one-billionth tweet. Now, the service handles a billion tweets every week. [link]

As an SEO expert, I understand the best ways to utilize social media to attract your real estate targets to your Web properties. It's as much an art, as a science.
